Meet the Doctors

Dr. Christie MacDonald, Chiropractor

Dr. Christie MacDonald obtained her Doctorate of Chiropractic in 1997 at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto. In 2007 she completed her animal chiropractic certification from The Healing Oasis Wellness Centre of Canada in Ontario. Dr. Christie is passionate about helping both human and animal patients to obtain and sustain a healthy balanced life. Along with her husband Spencer Sekyer, a junior high school teacher, and their three dogs, they enjoy spending their spare time pursuing outdoor activities.

Dr. Ken Bergquist, Chiropractor

Dr.Ken Bergquist has practiced chiropractic since graduating from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 1988. He has practiced in Edmonton, Calgary and Grande Cache, Alberta. His company has also been providing injury prevention programs in industries since 1999.  These projects have been in many jurisdictions over the past ten years from Northern Ontario to Vancouver to Washington and Oregon. With the birth of his first grandson, he and his family are resettled back into Edmonton where his three daughters and two sons are living. Whitemud Crossing has a tremendous philosophy and vision for patient health and he is pleased to be able to be a part of this team.

Dr. Jeanette Amato, Chiropractor

Dr. Jeanette Amato became interested in chiropractic through her many years of Tae Kwon Do training.  Upon completing her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta in 2003 Dr. Jeanette moved to Sydney, Australia to pursue her chiropractic studies.  In 2007  she graduated from the Health and Chiropractic Department of Macquarie University and returned home to complete the Canadian board exams and begin practice in Edmonton.  Dr. Jeanette has an interest in sports and family chiropractic.

Dr. Jennie Long, Chiropractor

Dr. Jennie Long grew up in Wausau, Wisconsin.  She attended the University of Wisconsin Madison before moving to Minnesota to pursue her dream of becoming a Chiropractor.  She obtained her Doctorate of Chiropractic in 2009 from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota.  Dr. Jennie has a special interest in Chiropractic Pediatrics and is presently working towards obtaining her certificate through the International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association.  In her free time, Dr. Jennie enjoys running, yoga, hiking, reading and spending time with her husband, Kris, and their two cats.

Jodi Sagert-Lebsack, Registered Massage Therapist

Jodi has been practicing massage therapy for eight years and has been trained in several different branches of massage including Swedish relaxation, Reiki, myofascial release, specializing in lower back ligament pelvic restaliziation, as well as atlas and axis work.  Jodi is consistently upgrading her knowledge and adding to her abilities.  She truly loves what she does and believes that she has found what her gift is in this world.  With her unique approach to the body, she believes that no pain is your gain and she aims to optimize the range of motion of the body, decreasing discomfort and maintaining optimum well-being.  She is also a  mother of two beautiful little girls and thoroughly enjoys the laughter they have brought into her life, and is constantly amazed at all their wonder and awe that they have about this world.
 

Uran Berisha, Registered Massage Therapist

Uran joined Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors in 2010.  He is registered massage therapist as well as a European-trained physiotherapist.  With an extensive educational background and seven years of experience in both fields he is extremely qualified in determining clients needs.  His clients refer to him as the man with the magic hands.  He offers the flollowing services: Swedish Massages, Sports Injuries, Injury Treatment, Active Isolated Stretching, PNF Stretches, Soft Tissue Release, Reiki and his specialty Trigger Point & Conuterstrain therapy.  Uran received his Canadian Registered Massage Therapist designation from MH Vicars school with 2200 hours in remedial massage therapy program and is now in the process of obtaining his Canadian licese as a physiotherapist.  Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors is the perfect place fro Uran to make use of his extensive experience to help people.  Uran enjoys spending his free time with his family, swimming and biking.
 

Sharleen Heinrichs, Register Massage Therapist

Sharleen received a 2200 hour diploma from the Alberta Institute of Massage.  In 2007, she started her journey as a full time Registered Massage Therapist, gradually adding other techniques such as Craniosacral Therapy and Reiki Master Training.  Her treatments are usually a fusion of Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Therapy, Deep Tissue Massage, Crainosacral Therapy, Joint Moblizations and Swedish techniques to help pain relief, encourage postural correction and promote balance in the body. On her personal time, Sharleen also loves dance, nature, meditating, anthropology, reading, cooking and ZUMBA!

 

 

Sarah Oddoye, Registered Massage Therapist
"I always wondered what I would be when I grew up and even after I had progressed in careers in banking, radio, newspaper and television I still found myself feeling the need to search for something new.  I love working with people and knew that my ideal career will be people orientated.  I discovered massage therapy a few years ago after the birth of my second son and after much research I was determined to become a practitioner and an advocate.  I could see a bigger picture in my mind of how these skills could also help improve peoples' lives."
 
Sarah has lived in various countries and over time developed an ability to empathise with people form different backgrounds and cultures.  She speaks Spanish and is passionate about making Massage Therapy accessible to people from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures.  Sarah enjoys working in the multidisciplinary setting that the clinic offers due to the variety of client complaints that she gets to work on and help to relieve.  She is a graduate of the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy and just moved from Guelph with her husband Colin, their two sons Conrad and Nathan and Georgia, their pet dog.  Their sons both play the piano, skate, play hockey and basketball.  Sarah spends her time reading modern literature, African dancing, enjoying her husband's cooking and singing.  Sarah and her family get adjusted weekly and her "boys" look forward to getting "free" massages from her when she is able to fit them in her schedule.
 
Massage Therapy is Sarah's passion and many a friend has commented about how her eyes "light up" when she talked about her work.  She invites you in for a Therapeutic Session today and to become a member of our health family.  
 

Xiaobo Chen, Registered Acupuncturist

Xiaobo joined the Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors team as a Certified Acupuncturist in 2010.  She trained in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medical Science in China, graduating in 1990.  Xiaobo came to Edmonton in 2006, completed her Certification of Acupuncture Safety and became a Registered Acupuncturist in Alberta.  She has extensive experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments along with experience with various pain, sports injuries and musculoskeletal complaints.
 

Cheryl Bergquist, Office Manager

Cheryl Bergquist is the wife of Dr. Ken. Chiropractic has been a big part of her and her family's lives. She worked with Dr. Ken and the great staff of Grande Cache Chiropractic for over 12 years. It was in Grande Cache that she met Dr. Chrisite (a high school student at the time) and her family. Cheryl enjoys working with people, spending time with her family and friends, reading and yoga. She is currently learning how to use her new iPad. She is very excited to be back working in a clinic again where she has the opportunity to work with such a great team and help deliver the "Get Well, Stay Well" message of Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors.

Lisa McKenzie, Clinical Chiropractic Assistant and Wellness Coach 
Lisa re-joined the team at Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors in January 2010.  When the opportunity to come back as a Chiropractic Assistant came up, she jumped at the chance as she found she missed the clinic and the patients.  She has completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in English Literature.  With this background, she pursued her interest in Educational Tourism working in a variety of places.  Once she discovered chiropractic, she realized that is was in alignment with her health care philosophies and wanted to educate people about how it can help them. 

Laurie Pawlick, Office Manager/Chiropractic Assistant
As an active advovate of Chiropractic care, Laurie has seen both sides of the clinic experiance both as a long term patient and as valued team member in several Chiropractic offices.  She has an extensive nutrition background and has participated as both a life and parenting coach. Laurie was raised in a holistic family and has been able to pass on the many positve lifestyle choices to her family by ensuring they get their adjustments and live the chiropractic lifestyle.  In her spare time, Laurie is a mixed media artist and is often responsible for the decorations in the office.   

Kati Luknowsky, Chiropractic Assistant 
Kati is currently completing her degree for a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Alberta.  She is originally from Nova Scotia, but completed her schooling at Appleby College in Oakville, ON.    Kati initially had a strong interest in completing a medical degree, but has since developed a strong interest in chiropractic health and wellness methods.  "I wanted to shift my focus from restorative/reactive medicine to preventative medicine - I realized that embracing chiropractic medicine is a that I can do that."  Kati currently lives in Edmonton with her husband, Ryan, son, Ronin, and their two dogs.  

Jamie Laing, Chiropractic Assistant
Jamie has been a chiropractic patient since she was 13 years old.  She found that she loved the profession and started working in a chiropractic office when she was 16.  Since then Jamie has worked a few different offices, but we are happy to have her back at Whitemud Crossing Chiropractors.  She is going to school and has decided that she wants to go into Nursing with a focus on Pediatric cardiology, although Jamie still thinks that she may end up going to Chiropractic college someday.
